Personal statement

Barry is a Teaching Fellow in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde.  Before joining the university in 2021, Barry was a GTCS registered teacher within primary and ASN (3-18) secondary education.  As a Principal Teacher, he specialised in literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing education to support the inclusion of learners on the autism spectrum in secondary education, and led teams to support the inclusion of all learners.

Barry succeeded as  Programme Lead for the BA (Hons) Education and Social Services in March 2023.  This is collaborative programme run in partnership with five partner colleges; Glasgow Clyde College, New College Lanarkshire, Glasgow Kelvin College, City of Glasgow College and South Lanarkshire College.  Its focus is to equip students with the experience and skills to lead within health, education and social services settings in a manner which champions and further integration for children, Young People and Adults.

Teaching

Barry's teaching includes leadership, education and additional support needs.  He has the responsibility for the delivery of specialist modules such as Management and Leadership in Integrated Services, Education of Care Experienced Children and Professional Enquiry and Evidence Informed Practice.  

Barry acts as personal tutor to year three and four students with the BA (Hons) Education and Social Services degree. He has successfully supervised student placement and undergraduate dissertations.

More recently, Barry has begun to lend his expertise within education to other programmes where he teaches around educational policy in relation to achievement and attainment.
